Download QuanTek

You may download the QuanTek demo version here and run it on your Windows computer.  The demo version is fully functional, except for the ability to use real stock data, and becomes the fully functional version once activated with the license.  To try out the demo version of QuanTek , after downloading and installing the program, upon startup you will be greeted by an Authorization dialog box, indicating that QuanTek is not authorized.  Just click "Cancel", and you can use the program normally except for creating new data files.  You can try out QuanTek using the Samples stock data files that are supplied with the program.  To create data files and work with real stock data from TeleChart, you need to purchase a license from Omicron Research Institute.

To install QuanTek , just download the self-extracting installation file and double click it to install the program, or install the program directly from this web site.  QuanTek is designed to run on Windows 95, 98, ME, and Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP.  (You need at least Internet Explorer 4.0 to view the help files).  After you purchase QuanTek, send an e-mail to ORIsupport@kcnet.com with the Sitecode from the Authorization dialog box in QuanTek .   Then a Sitekey will be sent to you by return e-mail.  Enter this Sitekey into the Authorization dialog box in QuanTek , and your authorization is complete.

If you already have a license for QuanTek, you may transfer your existing license between any two versions (after version 3.2).  Just download and install QuanTek , and then transfer the license to the new (major) version.  (For minor version upgrades, see Installation below.)  Upgrades to new versions of QuanTek will be free until further notice.

Version: You can tell which version of QuanTek you have by looking at About QuanTek... under the Help menu.

Installation:  The QuanTek program is very easy to install.  Just download the program and either save the installation program to your hard drive and run it from there, or run it directly from this web site.  You can either install or uninstall QuanTek using the installation program.  If you are installing QuanTek for the first time, or installing a new major upgrade (version 3.1 to 3.2, for example), then the program will be installed to a new folder.  Then you can simply transfer your CrypKey license from the old program to the new one.  (The instructions for doing this are in the Help file.)  However, if you are installing a new minor upgrade (version 3.2a to 3.2b, for example), then you have to be careful not to lose your CrypKey license.  If the program is already installed, and you run the install program, you are asked to select one of three actions, Modify, Repair, or Remove.  (The Modify selection does not do much, since all the program components are required -- none are optional.)  If you select Repair, then you can install the new minor upgrade right over the old version and your CrypKey license will not be lost.  If you are switching from the MetaStock to the TeleChart versions (and possibly vice-versa -- the MetaStock version is slightly newer by a few minutes), then you must select Remove to uninstall the original version, and then install the other version.  Be careful not to delete any of the files remaining after performing the Remove, otherwise you might lose your CrypKey license.  Also, the CrypKey licensing system is an integral part of the installation process.  So you must make sure that the CrypKey licensing system has not been disabled on your computer, otherwise this will prevent the installation of QuanTek.

CPU usage:  The numerical routines in QuanTek are CPU-intensive, and when doing a computation the entire power of the CPU is used (unless, of course, you have a dual-processor or other high-powered computer).  Sometimes, when certain other (older) programs are open at the same time as QuanTek, this causes the numerical routines to fail during a computation and the program crashes.  Probably most fairly up-to-date programs are safe to run with QuanTek on Windows 2000/XP.  But if you do experience a problem, please check to see if some other program running at the same time might be the culprit.  Also, in the past there was the occasional CPU with a faulty floating-point unit (FPU).  If the program seems to run but the numerical calculations don't make any sense, you might try running the program on a different computer, to see if the FPU might be at fault.

Memory requirements:  The QuanTek display uses a bitmap that requires a lot of RAM.  This program was developed on a Windows 2000 computer with 768 MB of RAM (700 Mhz) and it runs fine.  However, it was tested on a Windows 98 computer running 128 MB of RAM, and this was not enough RAM to display the bitmaps of the stock graphs.  So we estimate the minimum RAM to be something like 256 or 512 MB, in order to display the bitmaps.  The calculations also use a lot of RAM, we estimate something like 64 MB, but the bitmap displays should be the limiting factor as far as RAM is concerned.  (If there is not enough RAM to display the bitmaps, an error message will be displayed saying so.  The program will not just "crash".)  You can tell if your computer has enough RAM by simply downloading the QuanTek demo and running it on your computer, using the Sample files.

Screen requirements: The QuanTek program was designed for a minimum screen resolution of 1200 by 800 pixels.  It is recommended that this resolution or higher be used to run the program, especially in the vertical direction, otherwise the dialog bar will be cut off, and there won't be enough room to display the graphs.

Upgrading:  When upgrading, please run Calculate (Portfolio) Data, otherwise the various displays will show incorrect results.  Also please be sure the correct filter for each security is selected in the Hybrid Filter dialog.

Sample Files:  The Samples A (or B) folders are in the same directory as StockEvl.exe, which is C:\Program Files\Omicron Research Institute\QuanTek 3.2\Samples A (or B).  To run the Sample files, just navigate to the Samples A (or B) folders in the Open File dialog, and then open one of the Sample files.  This will select the Samples A (or B) folder as the current Stock Group, for the portfolio calculations and Calculate Data.
